How to Compare Automatic Car Wash Machines for Your Site
Use a consistent procurement checklist to compare machine scope, site fit, utilities, controls, drying, maintenance evidence and supplier terms.
A procurement comparison is most useful when every supplier answers the same questions in writing. Use this checklist to compare equipment scope, site requirements and ownership terms without assuming that similar product names include the same functions. 1. Site and Vehicle Fit
Start with the proposed bay, vehicle mix and traffic flow. Confirm the machine footprint, required clearances, maximum vehicle dimensions, alignment method, entry and exit path, queue space, unloading access and any site restrictions. Ask whether under-chassis washing or other functions are included in the quoted equipment rather than assuming they are standard.
- Which vehicle dimensions and body profiles are covered by the quoted configuration?
- What bay dimensions, clearances, foundation, drainage and approach space are required?
- Which wash, scanning, guidance and safety functions are included or optional?
2. Quoted Controls and Drying
Record the quoted wash system before comparing controls or drying. Ask for the operating pressure and nozzle configuration with their measurement conditions, the structural and plumbing materials, finishes and corrosion-protection treatments, and the motor drive architecture. Then record the operator interface, diagnostics, remote functions and software or connectivity requirements. For drying, compare the number and rating of dryers, their placement, the stated cycle conditions and whether the quoted cycle includes both washing and drying.
- What operating pressure and nozzle configuration are specified for each quoted wash programme, and under what conditions were they measured?
- What structural and plumbing materials, finishes, coatings and corrosion-protection treatments are specified?
- Which motor drive architecture and controls are supplied, and what documentation describes their operation and maintenance?
- Which controls, displays, reports, sensors and safety interlocks are supplied?
- What drying equipment is included, and under what conditions was its performance stated?
- Does the quoted cycle time cover the complete configured wash and dry sequence?
3. Utility Requirements
Obtain site-specific requirements for connected and peak electrical load, phase and cabling, water supply, pressure and quality, storage, drainage, wastewater handling, compressed air and any other supporting equipment. If a supplier provides per-cycle consumption figures, ask for the configuration, cycle and operating assumptions behind them.
- What electrical connection, protection and backup arrangements are required?
- What water supply, storage, treatment, drainage and discharge provisions are required?
- Which utility equipment and civil work are included in the quotation, and who supplies the rest?
4. Maintenance and Service Evidence
Ask for the preventive-maintenance schedule, consumables list, spare-parts process and service request procedure. Review the actual warranty and AMC documents for scope, exclusions, labour, travel, response process and geography. A supplier's location or product origin does not by itself establish support coverage or response time.
- Which maintenance tasks, intervals, skills, tools and consumables are required?
- What do the warranty and AMC include and exclude, and when do they begin and end?
- How are spare parts ordered, priced and delivered, and what evidence supports the stated service process?
5. Demonstration and Quotation Questions
Use a demonstration to verify the configuration being quoted. Agree on the vehicle types, complete wash and dry sequence, operator steps, safety checks and utility conditions you will observe. Then make sure the final quotation identifies the same configuration, site scope, training, documentation, delivery conditions and exclusions.
- Is the demonstrated machine the same configuration and software version as the quotation?
- Can the supplier show the complete operator workflow, safety response and wash-and-dry cycle?
- How many trained operators are required for the complete workflow, and which tasks sit outside the automated cycle?
- Does the written quotation identify every included item, exclusion, payment milestone and delivery condition?
