EV Charger Installation Cost in India: Setup Cost Breakdown
The four parts of an EV charging station setup cost in India, what each depends on, and how to budget for a DC fast charger installation.
See the DC Fast Chargers · WhatsApp us
The installation cost of a commercial EV charger in India has four parts: the charger itself, the power connection or transformer upgrade, the cabling from your panel, and civil work such as the plinth and earthing pit. Pristine AACF quotes the charger and installation per site after reviewing your transformer capacity, cable run and civil scope, so every part is visible before you order.
This guide is for businesses installing DC fast chargers, from a single 30 kW charger at a hotel to a 240 kW charger at a bus or truck terminal. It explains what drives each part of the cost so you can budget before asking for quotes.
The four parts of EV charging station setup cost
| Cost part | What it covers | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Charger equipment | The DC fast charger unit | kW rating, single or dual gun; 5% GST extra |
| Power connection | New or upgraded DISCOM supply, transformer if needed | Your spare kVA versus the model's connected load |
| Cabling and protection | Cable from panel to charger, breakers, metering | Distance and route of the cable run |
| Civil work | Plinth, earthing pit, optional canopy and bollards | Ground condition and how much you add |
Transport of the charger is also extra and depends on the delivery location. Installation is quoted per site, never as a fixed add-on.
Power connection: usually the biggest unknown
Each model needs a 3-phase 415 V AC supply sized to its connected load. Check this first, because it decides whether you can use your existing connection or need an upgrade from your DISCOM.
| Model | Approx. connected load |
|---|---|
| 30 kW | 34 to 36 kVA |
| 60 kW | 68 to 72 kVA |
| 80 kW | 90 to 95 kVA |
| 120 kW | 135 to 145 kVA |
| 160 kW | 180 to 190 kVA |
| 180 kW | 200 to 215 kVA |
| 240 kW | 270 to 285 kVA |
Under the Ministry of Power EV Charging Guidelines 2024, the DISCOM should give a charging station connection within 3 days in metro areas, 7 days in other municipal areas, 15 days in rural areas and 30 days in hilly rural areas, or 90 days where a mains extension or new substation is needed. The guidelines also cap the electricity tariff for charging stations at the DISCOM's average cost of supply until 31 March 2028. Actual timelines and tariffs are applied by each state's DISCOM and regulator.
Cabling and civil work
- Keep the parking bay within cable reach of your main panel; a long cable run adds cost.
- Build a raised plinth for the charger so water does not pool around it.
- Dig a proper earthing pit for the installation.
- Add a canopy and bollards if you want them; they are optional, but a canopy helps drivers in rain.
- Arrange a stable internet connection for UPI payments and remote monitoring.

Taxes, terms and timeline
GST is 5% on charger equipment. If you then sell charging to drivers, that service carries 18% GST, which you add to the driver's bill. Payment terms are 80% advance and 20% on dispatch, and delivery is 2 to 3 weeks from the date of payment. Start your electrical and civil work before you order so installation can follow delivery quickly.
Can subsidies reduce the setup cost?
Some states offer capital subsidies to eligible public charging stations, each with caps and conditions, and the station owner claims them after operations start. Approval is not guaranteed. Read our EV charging station subsidy guide before you count any subsidy in your budget.

Frequently asked questions
What is the total cost to set up a DC charging station?
It is the sum of four parts: the charger, the power connection or transformer upgrade, cabling from the panel to the charger, and civil work such as the plinth, earthing pit and optional bollards. Pristine AACF quotes the charger and installation per site after reviewing transformer capacity, cable run and civil scope, so you see every part before ordering.
Do I need a new transformer?
Only if your existing supply lacks the spare capacity. Compare your spare kVA with the model's connected load, for example about 68 to 72 kVA for 60 kW or 135 to 145 kVA for 120 kW. If you are short, you will need an upgrade from your DISCOM. We review this before quoting installation.
How long does the DISCOM take to connect a charging station?
The Ministry of Power guidelines 2024 set 3 days in metro areas, 7 days in other municipal areas, 15 days in rural areas and 30 days in hilly rural areas, or 90 days where a mains extension or new substation is needed. Actual timelines vary by DISCOM, so apply early, ideally while the charger is being built.
Is installation included in the charger price?
No. Installation is quoted separately per site, and transport is extra depending on the delivery location. Charger equipment carries 5% GST. Keeping these lines separate lets you see exactly what each part costs and compare quotes from different suppliers on a like-for-like basis.
Is a canopy required?
No. All models are IP54 and IK10 outdoor rated and work in Indian heat and rain without one. A canopy and bollards are optional. Many sites still add a canopy because it protects drivers while they plug in and pay, and bollards protect the charger from parking knocks.
PLANNING A DC FAST CHARGER?
Seven commercial DC fast chargers from 30 to 240 kW, CCS2, OCPP and UPI payments with no driver app. Supplied across India. Price on request with a site-specific quote.
