What Is a CCS2 Charger? A Guide for Indian Charger Buyers
What CCS2 means, how it differs from Bharat DC001 and Type 2 AC, and why it matters when you buy a DC fast charger for a business in India.

A CCS2 charger is a DC fast charger that uses the CCS2 connector, short for Combined Charging System Type 2. The CCS2 plug combines the Type 2 AC pin layout with two extra large pins for DC, so one inlet on the car can take both AC and DC charging. CCS2 is the standard DC fast-charging connector for electric cars in India, which is why commercial charging sites choose it.
All seven Pristine AACF DC fast chargers, from 30 kW to 240 kW, use CCS2 only. This guide explains what that means for your site and your customers.
How CCS2 works
The upper part of a CCS2 inlet carries the Type 2 AC and communication pins. The lower part adds two DC power pins. During a DC session, the charger and the car talk over the communication pins to agree on voltage and current, and the charger then feeds DC directly to the battery, within what the car accepts.
CCS2, Bharat DC001 and Type 2 compared
| Connector | Current type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| CCS2 | DC (plus AC through the same inlet on the car) | DC fast charging for electric cars and buses in India |
| Bharat DC001 | Low-voltage DC, for light EVs | Indian low-voltage DC standard for light EVs |
| Type 2 | AC | Home, office and long-stay AC charging |
Bharat DC001 is an Indian low-voltage DC standard for light EVs. Pristine AACF chargers are CCS2 only and are not compatible with Bharat DC001 vehicles. Type 2 is the AC connector; a car with a CCS2 inlet can use a Type 2 AC plug in the upper part of the same inlet, but that is AC charging, not DC fast charging. Why CCS2 matters for a charging business
- It matches the DC charging inlet used by electric cars in India, so visitors can plug in.
- It covers high-voltage vehicles; our models deliver 150 to 1000 V DC output.
- Our 60 to 240 kW models have two CCS2 guns with dynamic power sharing, so two vehicles charge from one unit; the 30 kW model has a single gun.
- Drivers pay by UPI QR at the charger, with no app needed.
- OCPP 1.6J and 2.0.1 let you connect the charger to the software platform of your choice.
What to check before you buy
Check the charging port and maximum DC charging power of the vehicles you expect to serve, then match that to your spare electrical load. For city sites, many buyers choose the 60 kW charger; for highways and busy fleets, the 120 kW charger is a common pick. If you plan to use a third-party app or network, our guide on OCPP 1.6J vs 2.0.1 explains the protocol choice.

Frequently asked questions
What does CCS2 stand for?
CCS2 stands for Combined Charging System Type 2. It is called combined because the same connector family carries both AC and DC charging: the Type 2 AC pin layout sits on top, and two DC power pins are added below. That lets a car with one CCS2 inlet accept slow AC charging and DC fast charging.
Can Bharat DC001 vehicles charge on Pristine AACF chargers?
No. All seven Pristine AACF DC fast chargers, from 30 kW to 240 kW, are CCS2 only. Bharat DC001 is an Indian low-voltage DC standard for light EVs, and vehicles that use it cannot charge on our units. Check the charging port of the vehicles you expect to serve before you buy.
Is CCS2 the same as Type 2?
Not quite. Type 2 is an AC connector. CCS2 builds on the Type 2 layout and adds two DC pins, so a CCS2 plug can deliver DC fast charging. A car with a CCS2 inlet can usually take a Type 2 AC plug in the upper part of the same inlet, but that is slower AC charging.
How many CCS2 guns do Pristine AACF chargers have?
The 30 kW model has a single CCS2 gun. The 60, 80, 120, 160, 180 and 240 kW models have two CCS2 guns with dynamic power sharing, so two vehicles can charge from one unit at the same time. All models deliver 150 to 1000 V DC output and support OCPP 1.6J and 2.0.1.
Which CCS2 charger should my site buy?
It depends on your site type, how long vehicles stay and your spare electrical load. Hotels and hospitals often start at 30 kW, city sites at 60 kW, and highways at 120 kW or more. Our guide on which kW charger suits your site maps common sites to models.
